B · Guardian Tiger — a Korean tiger design drawn from a historical Joseon artwork. THE ORIGINAL ART & ITS STORY Anonymous Korean artist, Tiger and Magpies, 1850–1900. Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, Gift of Namkoong Ryun, 2000.29. The source pairs a spotted-forehead tiger with two magpies and a pine. Such pictures were placed on gates at New Year to welcome luck: tigers were believed to expel evil spirits and magpies to announce good news. A poem on the original is signed by the hermit Sonam; that inscription does not establish a named painter. This shirt adapts the tiger, birds and a compact pine branch, with the original paper and text removed. SHIRT OPTIONS & FIT
